Getting your annual flu vaccine is one of the smartest things you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones from severe illness. But if you’re wondering, “Can I use MediSave or government subsidies to pay for my flu shot?”The short answer is: Yes, absolutely.
In fact, depending on your age and health profile, your flu shot could be heavily subsidised or even completely free. Here is exactly how you can offset the cost using MediSave, Healthier SG, and CHAS.
1) The Healthier SG Route ($0 Flu Shots)
If you are a Singapore Citizen enrolled in Healthier SG, you’ve unlocked the best tier of subsidies. Eligible citizens get fully subsidised ($0) flu vaccinations when they visit their enrolled Healthier SG clinic.
You qualify for this free tier if you are:
- A senior aged 65 and above.
- An adult (18–64) with specific chronic medical conditions (like asthma, diabetes, or heart disease).
2) CHAS, Pioneer Generation & Merdeka Generation Subsidies
Not enrolled in Healthier SG yet, or visiting a clinic outside your enrollment? You still get fantastic subsidies at CHAS GP clinics and polyclinics if you fall into an eligible risk group. Here is what your out-of-pocket cost is capped at for subsidised flu vaccinations:
| Your Status | Out-of-Pocket Cap (at CHAS GPs) |
| Babies & Toddlers (6–59 months) | $0 |
| Pioneer Generation (PG) | $9 |
| Merdeka Generation (MG) | $18 |
| CHAS Blue / CHAS Orange | $18 |
| CHAS Green / Non-CHAS | $35 |
For Singapore Permanent Residents (PRs). If you are in the recommended age groups or have an eligible medical condition, you can access subsidised flu shots specifically at polyclinics or use MediSave to cover the cost at either a polyclinic or a private GP.
Who Are Eligible For Flu Vaccination Subsidies?
The government focuses its subsidies on those who need protection the most. To qualify for the heavily discounted or free rates above, you generally need to fall into one of these categories:
- Young Children: Ages 6 to 59 months (under 5 years old).
- Seniors: Ages 65 and above.
- Expectant Mothers: Women in any trimester of pregnancy.
- High-Risk Adults (Ages 18–64) & High-Risk Children Aged 60 months (5 years) to 17: Those with chronic conditions (diabetes, kidney/liver/heart disease, etc), suppressed immune systems, or those receiving long-term aspirin therapy.
If you are a perfectly healthy 30-something without chronic conditions, you won’t qualify for these specific national subsidies but you can still get the flu shot at most private clinics for around $35 to $45 out-of-pocket. 3. Using Your MediSave For Flu Vaccinations
If you prefer not to pay cash out-of-pocket, you can tap into your MediSave account under the MediSave500 or MediSave700 scheme.
Both Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents (PRs) can use up to $500 per year (or $700 for patients with complex chronic conditions) for approved vaccinations under the National Adult Immunisation Schedule (NAIS) or Childhood Immunisation Schedule (NCIS).
You can use MediSave at any MediSave-approved clinic which include polyclinics and CHAS GP clinics.
